If you are selling products on the web, there are many things you can do to highlight your products and sell many of them. Some things that will help you include the photos you use, the content for photos, and the size of the photos. Many people don’t think about the quality of a photo and how important it really is. Even after their product fails to sell, they still don’t realize it was because of a photo.
Photos make a big difference with the ability to sell a product. The pictures you take of your products need to be original but also clear. If you post a fuzzy photo that is difficult to make out what is really in the picture, the buyer might think you are hiding something wrong with the product. A crystal clear picture will show the buyer exactly what they are about to buy. Never omit a picture of a product because the shopper wants to see what they are about to get. Also, if you take a picture of a product too far away and the shopper cannot zoom in enough to get a clear idea of the details of the product; they will be untrusting as well. An up close and personal shot of the product is important. Give the shopper the ability to zoom in on the product and get a close up if they would like one. Don’t appear embarrassed of the product you are trying to sell or you won’t sell anything.
Another thing about the photos posted on a website is the content you write about the photos. If you have pictures of your products posted on your site, be sure that you provide enough information for people to know what they are looking at. For example, if you have a picture of a US citizenship exam that is clickable to download, be sure you write below the photo what it is. People could mistake the picture for the US immigration application forms for a green card and download it. Content can be misleading. No content can ensure you won’t sell too many of the products also.
The size of photos on a website makes a big difference in the success of a business on the web. This is because if the photos are too big then they can be a pain. If someone clicks on your website and they are on a slow internet connection, they have to wait for photos to load. If your site is packed with photos of products and they are not compressed, this could lock up a shopper’s computer until they close out their web and reopen it. If something like this is happening to shoppers when going to your site, chances are good they will put you on the ‘do not go back to’ list. Compress photos and make your site easy and fast to load for users with slower connections. Not everyone is on a fast connection today. Some people still are stuck on dial up and you must cater to them too.
